Sir

I have sent all the seeds that I could collect since the Gorgon sailed by Lieut Nairn late agent on board the Pitt East Indiaman and now intrusted with the dispatches for England, I could not send specimens as the Governor said it would incumber Mr Nairn too much but I will take the first opportunity.  I will likewise send fifty tubs of live plants by the Atlantic.  If you please to send some cork Boxes Sir I will collect some Insects, of which there is a wonderfull variety here.

The Governor desires me to describe the nature of the soil of this country to you Sir, but you will know it best from the specimens sent to England in the Gorgon, and those that shall be sent by the first oppertunity, all that I can say is that so far as I have traced the country the proportion of good ground to bad is great.  where the land is not arable it is exceeding fit for pasture, the grass in general being very good, the soil in general is a fine deep rich light loam and where it is well broke opened
