this year gathered about three hundred weight of very fine grapes, the quantity next year will be very considerable. I have oranges but they are not yet ripe, the soil round the trees having been mowed too late in the season. All the plants sent out in the Gorgon will do very well, & we have now vegetables in abundance at Parramatta they are now served daily to the Convicts, still you may be told that the Country will not produce a Cabbage.

You may also be told that the Master of one of the ships paid a Guinea for two fowls, which is very true, but at the same time, the Convict who sold the fowls for a Guinea paid the man who bought them of him, twenty five shillings for a pound of tobacco, & which if Brazil tobacco cost, at most, but two pence half penny.

The good potters died, & those who remain alive cannot master a good red
