and do ceremonial drill, and this within possibly a week of the real thing. The first man in our company to go, passed out yesterday at dinnertime from pneumonia, a very decent chap too, and now everybody seem to have a little thought stowed away somewhere, as to the probability of a good many of us following him within a week or so.

9th Apr 1915 At last there is a date fixed & early on Monday mornin Sunday morning, that is the day after to-morrow will see us en route for the war. It seems a time to sort of recapitulate impressions of Heliopolis & Cairo. In one way our going will be a blow for Heliopolis, for our stay has sort of roused business a bit, and evidences of our occupation are everywhere, chiefly in the form of restaurants.
