lorries were provided to transport our kits and we moved off in the dark to our billets
about 5 miles further on.
We could hear the distant booming of the guns and see the flashes of the light bombs as
they lit up the sky momentarily and also the faint glare reflected from the field of action.
Tired and weary after 30 hours travelling we plodded on in expectation of a comfortable
billet but our guide lost his way and we were lost to the world for a couple of
