about 7 kilos we struck the main road to Peronne, & on the right side Clery-Sur-Somme where the ground is high, of chalky nature, & a network of German trenches had been dug. Our position now was almost opposite Bazincourt Wood, the bridges which we had intended to cross on the previous day.
We then switched off the road, into a trench named "Glen Alley" we had to crawl through this. It was only 3 feet deep. Battn Hqrs was established at the entrance to it
