About 2 P M we saw the 6th Bde sweep the plain before Mt St Q, composed of Victorians. They came with bayonets fixed, in extended order from the banks of the Somme right across to the heights held by the 3rd Div. Their duty was to mop up. Fritz was throwing some 5.9's about but the 6th had few casualties. I reckon it was the finest sight a man could see, to see these men advancing at a steady pace across the open fields; they
