I can say though as regards the foregoing transfer from the 3rd to the 55th that it was a better shift for me in all ways. We got into a tent together with other men and they quickly made themselves acquainted with me. We got on in a very friendly way – seldom quarrelling and always as far as I can remember ready to help each other. We would, first thing in the morning be sent out for physical culture or physical "jerks" as it was called and afterwards would have a route march on the desert.
