1000 recruits from WEST MAITLAND District were grouped at RUTHERFORD CAMP. near WEST MAITLAND, designated 34th Battalion and placed under the command of Lt. Col. St. John Lamb.

33rd BATTALION
1000 recruits from the NEW ENGLAND District were formed at ARMIDALE under the Command of Tem. Lt. Col. Richardson, who later handed over to Lt. Col. Parker. who later brought the Battalion to RUTHERFORD CAMP, WEST MAITLAND.
Three weeks prior to embarkation Lt. Col. Parker was relieved of his command at his own request and handed over the command to Major L.J. Moreshead. (3rd Btn. A.I.F.) Capt. R.J.A. Massie being promoted to Major and made 2nd in Command, his position as Staff Captain being filled by Lt. G.E. Prior.
