July 28th: -
Another glorious day and so warm that our apparel consisted only of hat, trousers and soft shoes. Nothing of importance occurred without the exception of a lecture given by our O.C. to our unit on "Care of patients in sick-room."
July 29th: -
Still fearfully hot and sea calm. A lecture was given by Capt Lewis in the morning but no parades were called throughout the afternoon. The ship covered 264 miles to-day. Slept on deck.
July 30th: -
To-day, Australia Day, a public holiday was declared and a successful sports meeting held. Racing, boxing and other events [filled?] up and made a pleasant day for us, whilst a splendid concert was held at night. This was patronised by practically everyone aboard, and, at the completion, several articles were auctioned realising a substantial sum for the Australia Day funds.
July 31st: -
Fine but extremely hot. Crossed the line at 6 pm having covered 384 miles. Slept on deck but the night was unbearably close.

Still hot and fine, while sea remained like glass. Divine Service held in morning, and
