Thursday 11  March 1915
Hot weather today.
2 p.m. No letters for me from home.  
Rode for one hour midst the cultivated land, & the palm groves  & the irrigated land on this side [of] the hill  
Left Mena House at 8.30 p.m. for the Heliopolis Camp. Arrived at the Camp at 11 pm

Friday 12 March 1915
Up 6 A.M. with Lieut. Col. McGlynn from W. Maitland. Started about 7-30 a.m. on divisional Manouver with Colonel Monash & his staff.  
Out  all day till 4-30 pm., riding all the time. Home Mena House 10.30 pm bath & bed officers & men still crude but plenty of good & fair officers there. General  Maxwell, Birdwood, Godlee [Godley], Bridges &c.

Saturday 13  March 1915
Posted letters to Carrie the girls & Mollie. Replies to Car, Joseph & Kitty. Wrote reply to one from Doffie.  Not out  all day.
Rode during afternoon through the country.

Sunday 14  March 1915
At mass at 7 am. Rode  
Visited the Barage across the Nile river about 2 miles below Cairo. It's used for conserving the water, that then may be distributed to the farmers (fellahas) throughout the whole of the Delta. Flood mittigation & water supply are the functions of the barrage. storage of water is thefunction of the Assouan dam.
The director of the Barage works showed Colonel Monash, Col. McGlynn, Captain McAuliffe, & Mr Smith over the place, with me.
