25th A quiet day of still waters broken only by the 'popping' heads of Divers, like snakes heads, & occasional drifting land rubbish, such as bamboo clumps. ? Hence certain snake yarns of old?
7 pm. Struck trouble in some form at 6.25, variously stated to be (1) Caused by one of the jettisoned carcases trying to climb back on board . (2) A floating rock. (3) A tin fish. (4) Wreckage. Anyhow it appears we've lost a blade & other slight damage. Great fuss among ships people & angry words.
26th Shaft cracked and blade gone. doing 4 ½ knots in very hazy
