In coming out of Port Dalrymple the Porpoise got on a Rock, and received so much damage as  required her to hove down. Her Fore and Main Masts were in such a bad state as to require new;  and her Tops were also reported to be decayed.  On the execution of these duties they have been employed, and are now beginning to rig.

Until the 30th. July I knew nothing of His Majesty's Ship, but by observing her through my Spy Glass.  At that time Lieut.t Colonel Foveaux arrived with an augmentation of Men to the New South Wales Corps, and from him Captain Kent had permission to wait on me.  I then gave him a written Order to bear my Broad Pendants in conformity to their Lordship's Order of the 27th. February 1807;  but it had been flying from the 26th. May in consequence of a verbal notification to him previous to his sailing for Port Dalrymble.  On my asking Captain Kent where Lieut.t James Symons was, he informed me, that on his taking the Command of the Ship, Lieut.t James Symons left her, and was marked
