Walked with Capt Williams and Lane out to a Greek village 2½ m. out. Villages and houses poor. Lunched on hopbeer sardines and bread. At 3.30 went on b Arragon and later on to Prince Abbas with 4 others for Anzac

5 Mon
At 11am getting in to Lock Esk from Pr. Abbas an enemy submarine appeared about 5o yds off and the two boats parted hurriedly – Major Rutledge having Knox's box – went to Imbros and lost it there – I went to [indecipherable] till 4.30 when got on Lock Esk again – ashore 11.30 pm and thence to bivouac.
