the soil is fearfully hard – The ink is in lumps even & our pens have to hold over heat before one can write.

Of course water is very scarce. Every drop has to be melted. You never could imagine this cold. My poor feet are suffering some felt about 100 yesterday but am slightly better today.

We have just evacuated so must scribble a few lines to catch the mail.
