The North of Europe is represented in a very imperfect manner; Sweden under the name of Magna Gothia; Denmark is not laid down. In Prussia we find represented the Wars of the Teutonic order & the Lithuanians (which latter are calld Heathens, though Christianity had at that time already made great progress among them), with the inscription "hic sunt confinia Paganorum et Christianorum qui in Prusia ad invicem continuo bellant." - Russia appears under the dominion of the Tartars, & near the Caspian Sea & that of Azof are depicted the then famous Slave Markets. England & Scotland just find a place close at the margin, but there was no room left for Ireland. Africa displays nothing of the Portuguese discoveries, but the Northern half has been known to the constructor as far as Sudan: he not only mentions the Towns along the Coast, but he also knows that the Inhabitants of Mount Atlas, the Berbers, live in Warfare with the Saracens. In Egypt we find noticd the meeting of the great caravane of Mecca, & not only the Sandy Desert, but also the names of the most important Mercantile places beyond it such as Tagaza Ganugia &c. The Empire of Prester John extends in Nubia "abostio gandis (Cape Gardefau) usque ad fluvium auri".
