also (1436) refers the empire of prestre John to Africa, hence it was not first done by the Portuguese. Asia likewise furnishes many remarkable things. In midde Asia are figured the the camp of the Tartars: "Tataria regio maxima, qua Tatar cum suis jumentis et bobus excurrunt, civitatem ex multis tentorus et carutis situant. India is divided into India superior, where there is the body of St. Thomas and many christian empires and in "interior, en qua Cathai civitas et magna Canis imperatoris Tatatorum sedes". In China the capital Cambaleo (Cambalu, Peking) is mentioned at the boundaries of little Bucharia, Organti (Urganz.): De Organti ad Cathagium vadunt Cameli in quatuor mensibus. The caravans goes travelling between Cathai and the neighbouring places are here represented. At the eastern margin we find the country Gog and Magog, and lastly the Locua deliciarum, or paradise. It is clear that the whole real importance of this monument of antiquity will appear in more to more advantage on comparing all the its details with the writings of the Arabian and other ancient geographers.
