accommodation, & most of the tables elected permanent mess orderlies each man subscribing a shilling a week to the orderlies who were exempt from all drills or fatigue duties. This worked out satisfactorily, for the orderlies became efficient at their duties which was far better for all than taking it in turns to carry the food down from the galley.
