train to Netley: Visited the ruined Abbey and the hospital again, seeing the Australians who were patients therein.

Returned at 6 pm, had tea and went afterwards to the Hippodrome where a good show was presented.

October 16th: -
Cool to-day and dull throughout.

During the morning we went by car to Bitterne and in the afternoon to Swathyling which is reached by train. On arrival here we walked to Eastleigh where we were shown over a large Remount Depot by a Melbourne Captain, named [Churnside??] who was off to France shortly afterwards. The visit to his camp was interesting and he generously entertained us to tea.

Left at 7 pm and upon reaching Southampton we accompanied some ladies to a concert & dance on the pier.

Slept below as night was very cool.

October 17th: -
Dull again but without rain.

Went to the baths in the morning and to Lyndhurst again in the afternoon, visiting the forests and river which flows through the same. Walked from here to Brockenhurst where we took train back to Southampton arriving at 8 pm.

October 18th: -
Coldest day experienced and very dull. As we anticipated sailing on the morrow we were detailed for ward duties for the morning, I being sent to E6. Upon finishing the cleaning and having the
