As soon as the struck the hard surface they shot ahead lifting their knees almost to their waists. I was lucky I got a lift into Ferry Post where the battalion camped for the night. The day after we reached Ferry Post we crossed the canal and went to an Ordnance Store and change our rifles went then went on to Moascar on the seventh of March and we stayed there till the Seventeenth. We left in open trucks at midnight.

We arrived at Alexandria about midday the next day, and embarked, on the Ascania (Cunard Line) but did not sail till the next day.

Marseilles was reached at dusk on the 25th [March] but we did not land till the day after when we marched through the town and back to the boat we entrained. Then began our
