away, we have extended it. At present the Officers & Married Mens Huts, Barracks & Parade, which includes the old encampment, takes up four acres, & a quarter. I was for some time after landing with an Officers guard at the distance of eight hundred feet from the rest of the Detachment, & the Convicts were scattered amongst the Trees which surrounded us, as they could find shelter till there was room to erect their Huts. We had something else to do, than to erect works for which there did not appear to be the least necessity. As to my Conduct, if ever I have erred, or consulted my own conveniency or interest, there will soon be those at home, who will not lose an opportunity of pointing it out, but I have never to my knowledge swerved from the lline of Conduct which I laid down for myself the day I embarked, & which had the good of the Service
