Grounds, that the Justices who committed me, and the members before whom I am called have an interest direct immediate and consequential, in my conviction, in as much that they have contributed their united effort to subvert His Majesty's Government in this Territory, of which I was an accredited Member; that I am obnoxious to the persons who have assumed the administration is clear and decisive, and it is equally certain that every means, which injustice can devise will be employed to villify my Character in order the better to justify their own Conduct to His Majesty's Ministers.

I therefore for the aforesaid strong and imperious reasons do most solemnly protest against my being put on my Tryal before you and by you.  1st on the grounds of your not possessing Jurisdiction, 2nd on the grounds of your having in your individual and collective capacities a palpable interest in my disgrace as a public Officer, 3rd that it would be against the allegiance and Fidelity I owe to my revered King and lastly on the ground that it would be in direct opposition to that obedience, which my Commission enjoins me to act with towards His Majesty's Governor of this Territory; therefore these are my reasons for
