- W[?]ombie -
This was a kind of yam, the root of a
slender vine that grew in the scrubby gullies
and was dug up by the women with their
w[?]ombie (yam) sticks - It varied in thickness from
about an inch and a half to half that size and a few inches
in length. When baked in the ashes it was very
palatable and we children liked it
very much - The young stalk of the
gigantic lily was also roasted and eaten
after having been soaked in water for some time -
