Background Note

Rowland Hassall's Parramatta store day sales books, three bound volumes with manuscript entries recording sales each day. Entries include date, name of customer, goods purchased, and cost of goods purchased. Day sales books provide an insight into the availability and cost of goods in the Colony. Customers of the Parramatta store are representative of every aspect of colonial society and include missionaries of the London Missionary Society in Tahiti.
