They had no accident whatever in the Passage out & had not lost above 40 when the transport left them, 4 convicts had been executed for theft.

They had settled in Port Jackson 3 leagues N from Botany Bay where they found an Admirable Harbour, a fine Stream of Fresh water, Plenty of Fish & a Soil which gave a reasonable promise of Fertility.

They arrived there Jan 20 1788 & dispatchd the Prince of Wales which brought the news by the way of Cape Horn July 10, March 24 - 8..2..3.

The Climate appears good but subject to thunder & lightning, many trees had been Set on Fire since they were there & some sheep & hogs Killed in the Camp; the nights were much Colder than the days, Capt Philip Observed a difference of 33 degrees of this Thermometer hung in the Shade, between 8 in the morn & 2 in the afternoon, they had a slight shock of an earthquake in June.

They had from 12 to 14 acres of land under Cultivation & Found their seed Come from England good, except only that it had suffered from Wevils, they had Horses, Cows, Goats, hogs Sheep, Turkeys, Geese, ducks, Fowls,
