Determination of the Committee

The cheif complaint of the agent for Antigua is that the retale merchants hoard up all the silver & copper coins & will not issue them again without an exhorbitant premium.  This complaint will be remedied by an issue of tokens for as that measure may be from time to time repeated The petty forger will not again venture upon a monopoly; the question of counterfeits grievous as it is has been in some degree checkd by salutary provisions ably carried into force execution & is no part of the Project now before the Committee, this indeed can never be remedied till the colonies are supplied with legal money & the mint enabled by the receipt of a sufficient income & improving of the present existing laws to prosecute pffemders with activity & Effect.

It may not be improper to add that the present price of silver is so low enough to tempt those merchants who conceive it as consignment & who cannot soon find a market for it to carry it into the mint for coinage, & that this would actualy have been done some months ago had not the silver coinage prevention act
