Sir J. Banks Reflections on gt dispute between Mr Banks & M. Droz

The business between Mr B & Mr D has been during the whole progress of it so loosely carried on that it is next to impossible to ascertain with precision what each party ought now to do in order exactly to fulfill the parole engagements which have been made between them, altho much misunderstanding between the parties has been the consequence of the irregularity which is almost incredible with which the whole has been carried on it is wonderfull there is not a greater quantity.
 
Mr. D certainly undertook to put Mr. B perfectly in train to execute a large copper coinage in England with presses of Mr. Ds invention which Fixd an inscription or pattern on the edge of a coin with the same blow that struck the Face & reverse.

This undertaking Mr. B appears to have understood to comprehend

1. The engraving Dies for a halfpenny & a farthing for which work however no specific compensation is ever mentioned.

2. Assisting in the Fabrication of six presses to be made at Mr. Bs expence ? for which Mr. D was to receive £700 being £200 for the 1st  & £100 for each of the others with a promise of £100 for every other press of the same sort which should hereafter be erected.

3. Two years residence in England to put the whole matter of coinage in compleat train for which he was to receive £1000 & posession of a house at Birmingham free from Rent & Taxes.
