      The mermaids of Port Langdon

On the northern side of Port Langdon

there is a fresh water river, and

mermaids are supposed to be there.

Once long ago some native men

captured one of the mermaids, they

took her a long way from her

house. In the night when they slept

they put her in the midst of the camp,

but she managed to run away. The

men all chased her but she ran too

fast & left them behind. She ran to the

river & the men saw her dive in.

If anybody camps near the river

at night they hear the mermaids singing

No one sleeps by the river because

they say the mermaids come in the night

& take people they catch camping by the

river & take them away and they too

become mermaids.
