During his residence at        Mr [Mungo] Park saw the Arab women manufacture Bread from the Fruit of a Shrub extremely similar to if not exactly the same as that described by [Pacerh?] & Desfonteines as having been the Food of the Lybian [Letaphage?] of the Ancients who inhabited the country

after hanging on the bush till it becomes so ripe that the juicy pulp of the fruit is changed into a sweetish Farinaceous substance they Gather it & having bruised it in a wooden mortar till the stones are separated from the mealy part they of the Fruits they make of the mix the stones with water & make a Pleasant Drink which cannot be kept good many days, of the mealy part they knead with water & make of it without any other addition a kind of Cake somewhat resembling Gingerbread in taste which keeps good for 2 years
