If the Register be so antient [ancient?] a Book as Sr. Edwd. Cook in one of his Epistles hath there declared it to be, then it may give satisfaction in this kind, that these Laws of Sewers were in those times of great eminency & authority: for there we find 2 several writs or comissions of that nature.

The one authorizing certain persons to survey the defences in the parts of Holland in the County of Lincoln, the other for the viewing & surveying of the surrounded grounds lying between the 2 Rivers, Humber & Ancholme in the sd. [said] county of Lincoln; and the1st of sd. comissions is set down verbatim in Filz, Nat. brev. fo.113. Yet the 1st statute wch appears to us in print, wherein the frame of a comission of Sewers is set down, is the Stat. of 6 Hen. 6. Cap. 5. Yet I make no question
