on my part shall destroy it, and that whilst you are on Admiralty leave I shall be happy in meeting any Wishes you may Express:  and that it is my Wish to give Lieutenant Putland every liberty to enjoy the comforts of his family without leading myself into Error.

Memo.  It is necessary to remark that Lieutenant Putland has no family but his Wife who is my Daughter, who goes merely to accompany me; while Captain Short has a Wife and six Children. 

          Also - that altho' he calls it a private correspondence, he makes his Clerk write the insulting Letter, while himself writes the foregoing.
