Edinb:  [Edinburgh] 6th March 1789

Dear Sir

Your most welcome Letter came to hand on the 26th ulto.  I delivered the Secretary of the R S's [Royal Society's] Letter to Mr McLean. He said he was highly honoured by the notice you took of his Paper and submitted to the decision of his Judges with that diffidence & respect which ever accompany modest merit.

Accept my dear Sir of my hearty thanks for the state of the Kings health no Intelligence could be more gratefull to me and many other  His Majesties true Friends, long may he enjoy Health & Every happiness, and reign over a happy nation whose affections he has long secured by his many virtues
