It is very remarkable, that in Scotland we have felt so little of Winter, till the 12th Inst.  We have had but little Snow or Frost, and these of short duration.  The Thermometer at times has been at 17.16.15 but only for a day or a night.  I observe that the Southern parts of Europe have had the Cold equally severe as with you.

Our Friend Dr. Black is in good health, and presents his respectfull [respectful] complimts [compliments].  I do not know a better man or a more acute Philosopher.

I intimated your wish to Dr. Cullen his book on Materia Medica is nearly printed off.  He will send it with a Letter a week before it is published.
