government, considering my services. Since I have had the honor of serving His Majesty from the year 1781, to the present date, I have not been six months absent from duty, and if my command of the Colony, and the Corps, should meet with approbation, it will still strengthen my claim either for some allowance, or promotion.  The propriety of your interesting yourself in a case of this nature, I leave entirely to your own judgement.

          I have written to the Commanding Officer of the Corps, for leave to return to England, in the course of two years, in case any officer but himself should come out to command me, but I fear my bad state of health will render it necessary for me to leave the country before that time.

          I am now going on in collecting seeds, and specimens, with the assistance of a young man, I shall be able to send a tolerable collection of seeds for His Majestys Garden and some for yourself and friends.
