I have got a lease of six Acres of Ground about 1 Mile from this which I have cleared & in good order for a Garden & should esteem it a great favour could you recommend an honest young man as a Gardner, he would assist me much in Collecting and if Government would allow him his ration & something more I would willingly make it up £40 to him.  This season I intend paying some attention to the Grass's and other minute plants - & wish you could send me some paper for specimens as it is an article very scarce in this Country.  It gave me great concern to hear of the death of my friends Messrs. Aiton & Hunter.  I hope Mr. Horne is well my best Compts. to him & Mr. Dryander &c.

I am
Sir
Your most Obedt.
Humble Servt.

Wm Paterson

N.B.  I sent you a small phial with a plant & a few Insects by Mr. Consadine who went home in the Kitty.
