Port Jackson 12th Novr. 1802

Dear Sir

           This will be delivered to you by Mr. Thompson one of the assistant Surgeons of this Colony. from him you will learn of the unpleasent misunderstanding that has lately taken place between Governor King and myself, and which has occasioned a Correspondence of a very disagreeable nature.  As they are transmitted to His Majestys Secretary of State;  you will in all probability be acquinted with every circumstance, and I am confident you will see that there was nothing to induce the Governor to view it in the light he has done.

          As you are not unacquainted with what I sacrificed last year in support of his Authority as Governor of this Teritory, and the attention I have even paid to the welfare of every individual under his Command.   When I consider all this I must own I did not expect, that in my Absence, he would have entered into an examination of my Officers, without giving me previous notice, nor would his explanation become the Subject of Official correspondence;  wherein the Governor has chosen to accuse me, of having acted improperly, in not reporting an assertion said to be made use of in my presence, and in the hearing of a Sentery who might have put any construction on it, and occasioned the most serious consequences.  

          Being doubtful how far this business may be noticed; and considering it in a very different light with the Governor, I have not represented if Officaly to any of the public offices as I conceive it would be an Intrusion in me without answering any one purpose   I
