more expeditiously and with less expense and greater advantage if they had shifted the masts and made the stern of the vessel the Head, for I think they are best calculated to sail that end foremast.  From their water line upwards, their Jibes project outwards, if this is spoken of as an advantage in carrying sail, their bearings as is termed being all the way up in proportion to the pressure of sail carried, but in this there is also a disadvantage because there is a greater extent of jibe to windward and this may be supposed to make the vessel lewardly. 

For Example [See image for diagram].  ABC the form of the Body at the water line - how to bring Ao , by the pressure of carrying sail, perpendicular, it will rise so much of the side AC out of the water, as oC and whatever this quantity is, the wind may be said to act on it at right angles, and this will nearly be the position of the Body    [See image for diagram]. Therefore in proportion as the vessel lies down, she shows more side to the wind whereas in nor Men of War, when they heel, they they present an inclined plane, and the wind strikes obliquely upon their sides, and they have undoubtedly every advantage in sailing.  With respect to their masts & sails, they have no advantage, & I am confident our present manner of sails & reefs are far better than any other means we can contrive.  The interior parts of the Body are ingenious, & vessels by such means may be built of smaller timbers, but at present I think that no person will follow the Plan either for Merchandize or War. The Tanks are so far advantageous
