Tenerife, Augt. 30th 1791
My Dear Sir
I am but just able to inform you that I arrived here on Sundy. last 28th after a tedious passage from constant contrary winds. On Monday I received a violent attack of a fever from being exposed to the sun which I thought would have taken me off, as it had all the violent Batavia symptoms with that dreadfull headach which deprives one of reason. Happily it is now abated and fever lessened but I am writing with great torture - I hope the sea air will restore me my health again but perhaps I may suffer much untill I get to the southward of the Line. I have got you my Dear Sir on the honor of the Contractor [indecipherable] of the finest wine that can be procured. I have put it in English Casks that it may run no risk of leaking out & herewith send you a receipt from the Master if it should be necessary in the arrival of the ship , but I trust I shall
