[Page 3]

From the first day of our Anchorage here we have been in hope of Sailing every morning, & that has caused me day after day to defer writing, but the Wind still continues against us.  The Roads are extremely full of Transports from the Elbe, Baltic Ships, & Colliers, besides thirteen Sail of Men of War who had convoyed them, - in all about 150 Sail.  Several Vessels have been on the Sands & two of them lost.

I have had not only the arduous but so much of the laborious part of the Ship's Duty upon me, besides some ill health, that it has almost drove every thing out of my recollection, & I have always forgot to mention to you, Arrowsmith shewed [showed] me just before I sailed, a rude map Mr. Pollock gave him of our last Discoveries, & therefore meant to introduce it in his general Map.  I was not a little surprised at this, and to prevent an inaccurate Track being laid down I thought it best to give him that which was exact, and as a part which would become conspicuous in it, were the Islands we discovered north of the New Hebrides, I took the liberty to desire him to call them after you - I trust as I had no opportunity to consult you personally, you will only impute it to my sincere attachment.

Wishing you many happy Returns of this day, I remain My Dear Sir with great regard

Your faithfull [faithful] and
Affectionate Hble Servant

Wm. Bligh
