Calcutta in Yarmouth Road

Dear Sir
I have now the pleasure to acknowledge your favor of the 1st instant, in weather less tempestuous than what we have lately expirienced. Gales of Wind are alarming on a first cruize and will always cause some concern, but it has been a great consolation to us to have had a good Ship. We have met with no accident of any consequence, altho [although] in working into the Downs in thick weather, we grounded on a Knowl, about the size of the Ship, at dead low water where we laid almost two hours & half. I was at this time under the directions of a Branch Pilot, who I could not find any fault with, it being within the limits of where the North Buoy of the Brake should be placed instead of where it is, a Trap to all Large Ships. The next morning I sailed to join Admiral Duncan according to his rendezvous, which was 12 leags NW of the Texel, I cruized there without meeting with him and according to his subsequent orders was returning to the Downs, when contrary points & dismel long Nights induced me to take
