Lady Sinclair

At Spithead 24th. Dec.r 1805

My Dear Sir

I most sincerely hope you are recovering from your severe illness, and that I shall yet have the happyness [happiness] of knowing before we sail of your being able to take your usual exercise.  I have been much concerned that in midst of your severe pain you should have had a letter from me to give you any trouble, while I feel the warmest gratitude to you for interesting Mr. Greville & uniting your opinion in what was best to be done.  I have been sensible of no civility to be expected from the Admiralty - their ultimate point of decision might have been for me to have taken the Command of the Porpoise & sailed in her.  Had they in their last letter ended it with directing Cap. Short to follow
