My Dear Sir,
I have just time to inform you, that I arrived here this day with the Assistant, every person in good health If I except myself.
I left Otaheite the 19th July, untill which time the plants were not fit to be taken on board - they amounted to 1281 potts & Tubs included, most of them more than one plant & the Tubs several, so that the Number of Plants of every kind were 2634 - 200 Pots are now dead, but the rest are in good order-
On the 25th. of July I passed Whytootackee. - On the 3rd of August I determined the Mayorga Isles seen by Maurelle to be a new discovery & the Isles he lays down South of them called St. Christoval & Grand Montagne, are Tofoa & Caow
On the 5th August I revisted the Eastermost of my own discoveries & went through them being an extent of 90 leags. from East to West & full 53 leags. from North to South, a number of fine Islands. 11th. quitted them without anchoring
On the 19th. & 20th. August I went through my discoveries to the Northward of the New Hebrides & quitted them without Anchoring .-
On the 30th August I made Louisiade & after running through the most imminent dangers amidst shoals & a treacherous set of Inhabitants - Anchors broke - Cables rubbed to pieces one Man killed & two wounded I entered into a clear Sea on the 20th Septr. by the Northermost of the Islands I saw in the Bountys Launch - I entered the Reefs of New Guinea in Latd. 9º: 30' South, Longd 145o : 0' Et. Therefore all hopes of a clear passage is at an End.
