     This Morning the Admiral sent again by the same Captains to them to order them to return to their Duty and that as some one had refused to stand Centinel, he had to insist on a Party of Soldiers being sent on board for that purpose, from whatever way this message was delivered, or whatever cause it arose from the Mutineers said they would receive the Soldiers.   Soon afterwards they declared they could not admit them.

     Many plans were mentioned, & the best way discussed, how to Subdue their Mutiny, & I did not hesitate to declasr that a party of Troops embarked on board of another Ship, & laid alongside, was the most effectual manner that I new of, because they would then be protected, which by any other means they could not, if resistance was made.  Lord Adam Gordon was written to - the Jupiter & Edgar was ordered to get ready as last Night, and two hundred Men were now ready to be embarked.  Suddenly the Plan was changed, and I was pitched upon to take all these Troops directly on Board of the Defiance. From this moment I heard no more of what was to be done; but set off to take command of the Boats wch. were filled with eighty Men - with these Boats I proceeded in two Divisions untill [until] close to the Ship, when from the orders
