My Dear Sir

I have deferred writing to you until now expecting to give you some satisfactory information respecting what was designed for me to do here, but altho I can tell you it is to make a survey of Dublin Bay, and give my opinion what can be done for the shelter and security of ships, yet I have not been able to do enough to form a fixed opinion on the whole, as the weather has been so extremely bad that I have not been able to get on with my Work.  The Survey will keep me for some time here, and I hope will be of considerable benefit, in as much as it will prevent some inconsiderate plans taking place and a waste of considerable sums of money.

I have finished the survey of Dalky [Dalkey] Sound & it is a small place formed by an Island & Rocks off the South point of Dublin Bay.  The whole
