Director Sept 12th 1797 Texel

S.est 30 leags.

My Dear Sir

I am extremely obliged to you for your favor of the 3 August, which was very late in getting to me, I have however every belief that through Your goodness England will get a larger Ship, as I sent the necessary certificate to Mr Nepean that you directed me to do. I had a flattering answer to my Letter to the Board respecting him, but I was nevertheless disappointed, by a gunner joining me at Sea.

We continue cruizing without any advantage except what results from blocking up the Dutch Fleet which I hope is of great consequence during the present negotiation.  The Weather has been very boisterous from Saturday last we had a very severe gale at West & NW. Several of the Fleet begin to complain, & I fear we shall have our number reduced if it continues so Windy as it is at present. The Warrior 74 has been constantly complaining as her signals have denoted, & loss of Top Masts.  What is become of her now I dont know, unless she has been ordered into Port, which, I suspect is the Case.  I believe my person is heartily tired in watching the Dutch - three Summers
