en famille;- I sent over horses, and before dinner the admiral arrived accompanied by Capt. Ballard of the Scepter, - and [Don Casiana di Medeanda a Spanish Nobleman of the last family of the Caraccas,- and who has been three years at our university of Cambridge, and speaks English fluently and well, - He arrived in the West Indies with dispatches, and [stray] recommendations to Sir A Cochrone & Sir G. Beckwith,- and from Trinidad the admiral is to send the Don in a ship of war to Caraccas.
Casiana is a very sensible and liberal man, - and if, and admiral supposes, he is the intended ambassador from the juntas of South america to England, - I [it?] shall auger well of a connection in consequence.
Don Casiana told me that he had read my 'Athens' at Cambridge and was pleased to request my correspondence, - which I promise myself amusement & satisfaction from.- The Admiral, inviting over his other Captains, stayed with me to celebrate the Kings Birthday on the 4th June, which he aided the festivities of, by his fine band of music;- we were so at dinner,- and had afterwards a Ball to two in the morning:- what with attendance in all parade, for the Garrison passing my review, & for feu de joye at noon,- and then Levee and then dinner, and the Ball, I had a hard day of it:- but this is a charming climate, for a Gentleman of 60, (the heat here gets to to 80- &82 and a constant fresh breeze) -and I wear well, not an hours sickness in three years, thank God. - with best compts to Lady & Miss Banks, [indecipherable] my dear Sir Joseph, your faithfull friend & servant
