Sep.r 28. 1808

Honoured Sir

Your Goodness will excuse me in addressing the following Lines to you relative to N. S. Wales. You have heard no doubt of the recent Revolution that has been made in that Colony; and may be better acquainted with the whole Circumstances that have taken place than me.  I shall therefore only mention a few facts, as related to me by a Gentleman, who was in the Colony at that time, which will shew the Causes & Complexion of the Revolution.  When Governor Bligh took the Command many serious evils existed, and which had been gradually maturing for the whole thirteen years I lived in the Settlement.  The greatest of these was the Barter of Spirits; all others were only branches that sprung from, and were connected with this.
