of this Island - I cannot help informng you that I have been so fortunate as to receive His Grace the Duke of Portlands Opinion of my Conduct, which is highly satisfactory to me. My obligations are great for the patience His Grace must have had in the investigation of a tedious train of Causes & Consequences at a time when the Events of Great Moment were necessarily under his Consideration. That every thing has been done which Art or Malice could suggest, to get this Island in a Most unfavourable & untrue sitiation, now remains no longer a doubt with me - Glaring Instances of which I have not sent to Government & which I hope you will see - the Produce of the Island Continues to supply as plentifully with Grain & Animal Food, & our Flax is getting on well; having just received which we have been long without viz Looms &c As I have already said we continue to enjoy peace & Plenty & I pray to God that these invaluable
