Georges River, which is on the South West side of Botany Bay. I send a small sample of the coal, procured there in the Box, which appears to be much superior to that found to the Northward. As the Miner is intelligent & master of his business, I hope we shall get at that article, but our great work will be Expensive, for no doubt the water will [come in?] upon us. The situation is handy for Loading, & for vessells lying in Botany Bay. As you have seen Messrs Bass & Flinders, any information on my part respecting the Straits etc, is unnecessary. As land has been seen to the Westward since these gentlemen were there, I am anxiously looking out for the Lady Nelson, and her first trip will be to find out whether the Western Entrance of the Heights is as good as the Eastern, & to run down the South West Coast, from there to ascertain whether there are any harbours in which vessells can be sheltered, & to solve the doubt, whether the Mountains are separated from the other part of New Holland by a Sea, a Strait, running from the Gulph of Carpentaria, into the Southern Ocean which is a very favorite idea in this Country, how far forward or not , the Lady Nelson I hope will determine
