May 21, 1801

The information, Sir Joseph, which you was kind enough to give me of no doubt remaining but that the passport would be obtained, and the probability of our speedy departure, were indeed acceptable;  and the communication is an additional mark of the kind interest you are pleased to take about us.  It was some days before the Navy Board orders came down concerning our guns, but yesterday we got them out, and those on board are received which are to supply their plans.  Shipwrights are now fitting ports for them, and by Saturday, all that matter will be concluded.  We are now armed in the most convenient manner possible, and I think very sufficiently for our purpose :  we have ten guns besides swivels.
