"Maclura is the botanical name given to this new genus in honor of Mr. W.m Maclure the Geologist, President and chief supporter of the Society of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia which has already done much for the Natural history of North America."
"A very elegant tree of middle size, - beautiful foliage, with a fruit, of the size and Color of an orange; having irregualities on the surface. It has a Milky juice - and is not eatable in its wild state. - The wood of a bright yellow colour, and very Elastic. - On the whole, a very ornamental tree - That will probably withstand the English winters, in the open Air. It is nearly related to the Bread fruit." -
